Audition for The Marijuana show (“Shark Tank and The Apprentice for ganjapreneurs!”) Producers will hear your two minute pitch at The Crowne Plaza Hotel in Downtown Denver, April 19th from 10:00am – 4:00pm.  You must be 21 years old and bring your ID. The Marijuana Show will conduct live auditions for Season 2, right in the heart of the Cannabis Event of a Lifetime, World Cannabis Week, powered by My420 Tours.  Contestants will compete for a chance to be the next Marijuana Millionaire by pitching their cannabis innovations to the producers. First season 10 ganjapreneurs were offered $5 million.  This season shoots in June and will diversify by shooting in a dispensary, grow, edible kitchen and a fantasy home to refine pitches, branding, marketing, social media skills, law, regulations and to pitch investors. Producers are looking for established businesses with revenue, licenses and permits. “This season we are looking for ancillary products for National retail, pharmacies, dispensaries, and grows.  If you have amazing edibles, are a grower, own a dispensary and are looking for financing — audition for sure.”... read more

No Half-Baked Alaska: Sarah Palin’s Hometown Bans Edibles

Sarah Palin’s hometown of Wasilla isn’t the only place you can get a great Baked Alaska. It just won’t get you baked. The town’s city council issued a slate of rules before legalization went into effect in February that included a ban on making edibles in homes, meaning pot brownies and the like are officially illegal in the town of 8,600. While many celebrated the new laws that make Alaska the third state to legalize recreational marijuana, not everyone was pleased. Bruce Schulte, public relations manager for the Coalition for Responsible Cannabis Legislation, was particularly incensed and decried the move as  likely unconstitutional. “How can you tell people what to do in their own homes?” said Schulte. People have been making homemade pot confections for decades, a practice that’s widely considered to be safe and harmless, which makes the move all that more complexing. Edibles also represent a healthier choice over smoking, not to mention a cash cow. In a recent report by Colorado’s Marijuana Enforcement Division, the number of edibles sold in 2014 — the first year of... read more

Three 4/20 events that could ONLY take place in Denver

Cypress Hill. Nas. Method Man and Redman. Snoop Dogg. As artists, they helped define a generation of hip-hop. And for one weekend, they’ll all be taking over Denver as part of the biggest celebration of legalized marijuana the world has ever seen. After a full year of recreational dispensaries, Colorado isn’t slowing down. Instead, more events than ever are planned leading up to 4/20, an annual celebration of all things cannabis. World Cannabis Week brings them all together with Entertainment 420, a combination of exclusive access and hassle-free transportation that gives visitors everything they need to truly enjoy their time in Denver. It’s already being called “the SXSW of weed”. Friday and Saturday are all about the historic 420 Rally held at Civic Center Park, one of the oldest (and largest) public celebrations of marijuana. VIP access? Covered. Grub at one of the numerous food trucks, check out artists from around the country, and dance your grass off at the main stage. Past performers include B.o.B., Wyclef Jean, and many more, so you know the 420 Rally crew gets... read more

World Cannabis Week Artist Spotlight: SOJA

World Cannabis Week Artist Spotlight: SOJA

SOJA is performing 4/18 at Red Rocks Amphitheater as part of the High Times Cannabis Cup. Currently touring on their 2014 album Amid the Noise and Haste, SOJA is a Grammy nominated reggae group out of Arlington, Virginia that has made fans internationally with their positive energy and uplifting music. Touring with Dave Matthews Band, Incubus, and 311, they have now developed their own cult-like following that never miss a show. Lead singer Jacob Hemphill’s mission is “to speak for people who don’t have microphones,” noting, “Our goal as a band is to stick up for the human race. We see the world and we try to make it better in the limited time we have here.” That social consciousness rarely touches on cannabis use, however, even as the band plays for marijuana expos and gives interviews to pro-marijuana publications. Still, if collaborations with Collie Buddz and J Boog (also performing at Red Rocks) are any indication, the band clearly doesn’t mind a little ganja. Where Can You Consume Cannabis?

Where Can You Consume Cannabis?

Coming to Colorado and planning on lighting up a joint in a local coffee shop? Don’t be surprised when you’re promptly asked to leave. While the Centennial state is famous for legalized marijuana, finding a place to consume it can be tricky. There’s a great deal of confusion for those who want to take their recent purchases for a test drive. Hotels Just because there are cannabis-friendly hotel options available in Colorado doesn’t mean all lodging options are so accommodating. A Texas man found out the hard way, after receiving a $200 extra charge on his bill simply for leaving his cannabis behind in the room. Many hotels are finding these fines are a great way to generate additional revenue from unsuspecting marijuana enthusiasts. If you haven’t used a travel service to book your trip, it’s highly doubtful you can consume in your room. Always check the paperwork you receive on check in to verify the terms of your stay. Otherwise, your vacation may be a little more costly than you expected. Parks and Public Places Known for the... read more

Venue Spotlight: The 1up

The concept of the barcade – where retro games meet a full bar – was one that Denver was all too ready for. The 1up, featuring two locations in Denver, is popular among those who like who have extra quarters (marijuana and coinage) nearly every night of the week. From AC/DC pinball to X-Men (sorry, Zelda fans), they have 50 different arcade games for .25 cents and pinball for .50 cents. Don’t worry about being bogged down with tokens, either. They all take actual currency! Unlike the arcades of our childhoods, there’s both beer and liquor available instead of juice boxes or Capri Sun. With happy hour coming early (3PM-7PM daily) and drinks starting at $2, it’s one place you can pop in near downtown without bursting your wallet. They’re also known for having a cheeky selection of libations, from 40 oz bottles of Mickeys to a variety of flavors of Mad Dog 20/20. The 1up Colfax One of FourSquare’s “15 Best Places with Live Music in Denver”, the recently expanded space doubles as a music venue as well.... read more
